Sunshine Shaker

sunshineshakercloseup

I've got another fun shaker card today for you featuring the Sunburst Thinlits Die.  We are featuring Sunshine-themed cards on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog, so be sure to check out what the other designers created HERE.

sunshineshaker

This shaker card was a bit more complicated because each individual compartment is technically its own shaker.  The hard part was to keep the small pieces from jumping into other compartments.  I created the confetti with the Fringe Scissors.  I had never even considered using them for that purpose, but there's a great pic in the new catalog on page 189 that gave me the idea.

The die-cut and sentiment are from the Sunshine Sayings Bundle.  I also added just a few White Perfect Accents to the card.  I'm pretty sure these accents are my go-to accessory for everything!

You'll find a complete list of supplies at the end of this post.

Be sure to check back tomorrow.  I'll have a step-by-step shaker card tutorial for you, along with a brand new shaker card!

Fairy Celebration Shaker

fairy celebration close up

I'm shaking things up with the Fairy Celebration stamp set.  It's no secret that I love shaker cards.  They are just so much fun!  And when you pair a shaker card with fairies and a great sketch from Freshly Made Sketches, you get magic!

FMS242

If you saw yesterday's post, I told you that I stamped a bunch of the fairy images onto Watercolor Paper with Basic Black archival ink and watercolored with an Aqua Painter and various ink pad refills.  I find it easier to stamp up an entire sheet of these types of images to watercolor all at once and then I'll have images ready for a variety of projects.  It's a great time-saver!

fairies

I have a feeling that Stampin' UP! is trying hard to promote shaker cards.  You need 3 things to create the perfect shaker:  Foam Adhesive Strips, Window Sheets, and layered punches or die cuts.  With all the layering framelits dies in this catalog, it's going to be fun to see what shaker cards everyone creates.  I made this stand-alone shaker with the Layering Circles Framelits and filled it with Dazzling Diamonds glitter, AKA Fairy Dust.

In case you think I forgot, I'm still working on the shaker card tutorial.  It will be worth the wait!  I'll be sharing more shaker cards throughout this week, so make sure that you have subscribed to receive email updates (in the right column).

Thanks so much for stopping by!  You'll find the complete list of supplies for this card at the end of this post.

Monday Montage 72

Mondaymontage6

Welcome to the Monday Montage blog hop!  Every other Monday, my friends and I share inspiring projects.  Be sure to visit all 8 stops (2 are sitting out this week).....you don't want to miss anything!

There is a 9-year age difference between my children, which means I went a very long time thinking that I would only have one son.  Many of my stamping projects were masculine or boy-ish.....fishing, sports, trucks, dirt, mud....you get the idea.  I loved all the girly stamp sets during that time but I had no reason to actually purchase them.  Well, the girl finally arrived and now I can buy all the girly stamps I want!

fairycloseup

Below is a picture taken last weekend.  Daddy planned a sleepover for Bella and her friend.  It was only a matter of time before the dress-up clothes were out.  She is definitely a girly-girl that loves princesses and FAIRIES.  When she saw the new Fairy Celebration stamp set, she insisted that I order it immediately.

  princesses

The plan for today's card was to use the sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch.  I went a little overboard with the watercoloring, so you're actually getting 2 cards today!

CTS_178

I stamped several fairy images onto Watercolor Paper with Basic Black Archival ink.  Next, I colored them with a variety of ink pad refills and an aqua painter brush.  And finally, I cut them out very, very carefully.

wishfairy

For the background, I created a wash of water over the watercolor paper and slowly added drops of Wild Wasabi, Pool Party, and Wisteria Wonder ink refills with the Aqua Painter.  I allowed the colors to blend together and dry completely.  I splattered the area with the Gold and Clear Wink of Stella brushes.  At one point, I squeezed too much of the gold brush which resulted in a pool of gold ink.  I took the splatter stamp and pressed it into the gold before stamping onto the paper.....a happy mistake.

fairycelebration

My first attempt at the watercolored background resulted in a much larger area than I wanted.  So, I cut out one of the larger fairy images and created the card you see below.  Just one more happy "mistake".

As much as I love all of these fairy cards, I'm saving my favorite for tomorrow.  Be sure to check back because it's a show-stopper!

Graduation Shaker Card

confetticloseup

We seem to be getting into the swing of summer, finally.  A few weeks ago, it seemed like we were always on the go....mostly with graduation parties.  So today I am sharing one of the graduation cards that I created from a while back.  The graduate's school colors were orange and black (ewwww!), so I didn't come up with this color combination by accident.  It just goes to show, that with the right stamps & supplies, you can make a customized card for anyone and any occasion!

Hoorayconfettishaker

I'm so glad that Stampin' UP! is finally selling Foam Adhesive Strips!  These little things make creating shaker cards so much easier.  I was always saving the "edges" of my Stampin' Dimensionals for this purpose and now I don't have to!  I'm sure if you are a new stamper, that a shaker card may seem a bit intimidating to make......perhaps, I should do a tutorial soon?  I find that once you have the basic steps down, it's really makes sense and then you can translate it to all sorts of shapes.  I'll get to work on that tutorial.  LOL!

graduationshaker

You already know how much I love the Confetti Celebration stamp set.  Now I want to profess my love for the Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper and the Sprinkles punch.  You'd probably never guess that there was anything Pink about this card, but the back of the patterned paper is Bright Pink, i.e. Melon Mambo.  I love having the option of basic Black & White patterns in addition to bright, colorful patterns.  And that punch.....how great is it that you can create custom confetti?  I added metallic sequins and paper confetti to my shaker card.....FUN! FUN! FUN!

New Catalog Goodies

Freakwelcome2013

Welcome to the Control Freaks monthly blog tour! This month's theme is new catalog goodies.  Oh, my!  There is so much goodness in this new catalog, that I can't wait to see what my fellow freaks have created!  If you started at the beginning of the tour, you just visited the very talented, LeeAnn Greff. She always has amazing ideas and I find her so inspiring!

I've got so many favorite stamp sets in this new catalog.  I just had to pick something and run with it for this hop.  This weekend I have been spending time with my oldest and dearest girlfriends....our first girls' trip in 5 years, so I'm feeling a little nostalgic.  The stamp set that I chose to feature is Baby Bear because teddy bears also bring back many good memories.  I think it's the perfect set for creating baby cards, don't you?

Babybearstampset
Baby Bear Photopolymer Stamp Set

So, I have a few tips for success with this stamp set.  First of all, it's a 3-step stamping set, which means it takes 3 sets to created the final bear image.  If you look at the clear image sheet that comes with the set, you'll see small numbers 1, 2, and 3.  It's very easy to distinguish the number 1 stamp, but I had a lot of difficulty with differentiating the number 2 and 3 stamps.  I took a black sharpie and wrote "2" and "3" on the flat side of the photopolymer stamps.

I also highly recommend you use the Stampin' Pierce Mat to get a good, clean stamped image.  Having the padding under your card stock will help the stamp be more even.  If you've struggled with this stamp, give it a try.

There are numerous color combinations that you can use to create these adorable bears.  Since my cards are so simple in design, I'm sharing the color combos that I used below each sample.

Festive Birthday

festivebirthdaycloseup

On the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog, the designers are featuring their favorite Designer Series Paper.  I think I've ordered them all, and I love each of them for different reasons.  However, the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper was my final choice for "favorite" because of all the bright colors & patterns.  Plus.......llamas!

festivebirthday

Who wouldn't love to get a birthday greeting from a friendly llama?  Or is it an alpaca?  The Birthday Fiesta stamp set coordinates perfectly with the Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper and the Fiesta Time Framelits.  This whole suite just screams "PARTY!!!!".

The llama was stamped in Basic Black ink onto Sahara Sand card stock.  Even though we have a llama farm just down the road, I wasn't sure what color would be best.  I'm pretty sure any of the lighter neutrals will work just fine.  The cactus was stamped in Emerald Envy onto Whisper White card stock.  Both images were die cut with the framelits and popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

festivebirthday2

I also die cut the Melon Mambo border from the Fiesta Time Framelits.  The swirly circle is from the Swirly Scribbles die (you know, the one that goes with Swirly Bird).  The layout is from this week's Mojo Monday sketch.

So, what is your favorite Designer Series Paper? Leave me a comment below.  I'd love to hear from you!

A Little Foxy Racoon

raccooncloseup

We have a fabulous sketch on Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration today and I'd like to personally invite you to play along.  Check out what the other designers created HERE.  Then, create your own card using the sketch as inspiration and upload it to our blog.

Ssinkcs34

I love the way the paper is layered in this sketch, so I immediately grabbed my new favorite Designer Series Paper:  A Little Foxy!  I've already created a Fox, a baby Fox, and a Skunk with the Foxy Friends stamp set.  Today, I made a raccoon!

alittlefoxyracoon

As you can tell, there is just a bunch of layered paper, tied up with the Smoky Slate stitched ribbon.  The raccoon was stamped onto Whisper White card stock, then punched out with the 2" circle punch.  I stamped a second tail and punched it out with the Fox Builder punch.  You'll notice that little smudge on the "mask".  Yep!  That's a boo-boo.  I make them, too.  For some reason, I'm really struggling with the a light touch with this stamp set.  Oh well, any raccoon I've ever seen has been getting in the trash or was run over by a car.  I guess my raccoon is just dirty or has a little road rash???  Take your pick!

We are almost 2 weeks in with the new catalog.  What do you think?  Personally, I'm very impressed with the stamps this year.  There are so many fun, cute designs that are right up my alley!  One stamp set that immediately caught my eye is Foxy Friends.  For today's blog hop, I'm pairing it with the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper and using a layout from Freshly Made Sketches.

alittlefoxy2

I've already mentioned how much I love the color combo of the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper.  The Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral, and Pool Party are so great together.  This layout gave me the opportunity to showcase several of the designs.  When I first stamped the larger fox, I had no idea what greeting I would use for this card.  I ended up with the "peek-a-boo" from Suite Sayings.  Then I thought it would be cute to have a smaller fox sitting with mama fox.  Since the stamp set doesn't have a smaller image, I simply cut one from the Designer Series Paper.  Voila!

alittlefoxy3

Another new product that I used on this card is the Layering Squares Framelits.  Oh my!  There are so many possibilities with this set of dies.  I'm going to need to play with them a bit more.

I have one more Foxy Friends card to share tomorrow, so be sure to visit again soon.  Better yet, PIN the cards you like so you won't have to hunt for them.

Welcome to the World, Baby Bear!

babybearcloseup

Once upon a time, there was a stamp set called Button Bear.  All the stampers in the land loved Button Bear very much.  Sadly, one day Button Bear went away, never to return.

How many of you even remember Button Bear?

Well, meet Baby Bear!  He's just as cute and cuddly, in a trendy photo-realistic style.  You're going to love him (or her), too!

babybearwelcome
It requires 3 stamps to create the complete bear image.  I recommend writing the numbers on the back of your photopolymer stamps with a sharpie (1,2,3).  If you look closely at the insert sheet that the stamps arrive on, you'll see the numbers.  I found it was very easy to get #2 and #3 confused.  On this bear, I used Crumb Cake stamped off (1), Crumb Cake (2), and Soft Suede(3).

babybearmojo

There are a couple of new products used on this card:  the Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies and Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper.  The framelits include 15 heart dies!!!  There is a size for almost any heart-themed project.  The Designer Series paper is a tricky one.  One side of the paper is photo-realistic and the other has a graphic pattern.  I loved this Crumb Cake ombre, dotted paper and knew it would work perfectly with my bear.  The other side of this paper has a picture of a wheat field (I think.  It might just be weeds?)

The layout of the card was inspired by a sketch from Mojo Monday.  You'll find a complete list of products to create this card, as well as links to purchase, at the end of this post.

New Catalog Favorites

Yaycloseup

We are featuring new catalog favorites on the Stylin' Stampin' INKSpiration blog today.  I've got so many favorites from this latest catalog that it was hard to choose just one thing.  My favorite new IN Color (so far) is Dapper Denim, and while it's not my number one stamp set, it's in the top 10:  Confetti Celebration.  In fact, I like it so much that I'm going to get two sets!  More on that later.....

dapperdenimyay

I started by punching medium stars from Soft Sky, Marina Mist, and Dapper Denim card stocks.  I drew a very faint pencil line across the top of the Whisper White card stock, then began adhering the stars along the line.  This is the 2nd row of Soft Sky stars for reference.  I figured if I got the first row straight, the rest would be easy.

ombrestars

I stamped the "yay" from Confetti Celebration in Dapper Denim onto Whisper White card stock.  It was punched with the medium star punch, then adhered to the card with dimensionals.  As one final step, I rounded the corners of all the bottom layers of the card.

Why would I need 2 sets of Confetti Celebration?  Well, for the first time in my 14 years as a demonstrator, I have lost a single stamp from a set.  Now, I could probably live without the "time to party" and "let's celebrate", but I NEED the "happy birthday".  Guess which one I lost?  UGH!!!!  It's so frustrating.  #firstworldproblems
